Pairs, Foursomes and More: How to build and lead a team

Whether its groups of students or your rangers and starters, when people come together into groups it creates unique challenges for you, the leader. How do you capitalize on the chemistry within a group to help them become a team?

The good news is that teams and team leadership have been well researched. We know what it takes for teams to perform at a high level. The bad news is that, like many things in our lives, it takes hard work and effort to move any team forward and achieve high levels of performance. It won't happen on it's own….do you know what it takes to be an exceptional team leader?

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the different stages of growth and change that a team goes through.
  2. Identify how the stages of team development affect the team's output and internal cohesion.
  3. Practice using task and process communication skills when leading a team.
  4. Determine the sources of conflict that occurs in teams.
  5. Use communication skills necessary to resolve common problems from working with groups.
  6. Practice strategies for dealing with team conflict.
  7. Explore ways to support your top performers to assume team leadership roles.
  8. Identify the basic elements of a successful meeting.
  9. Practice leading a productive meeting.
