Interviewing
to Select Top Talent for Your Organization
THE MOST
important thing you do as a leader and manager is to select talented
individuals that will become part of your organization. These
individuals must possess the skills, experience, knowledge and
attitudes that will enable them to succeed in your unique environment.
How do you cut through the image presented by a job candidate
to assess their true talents? And how do you do it quickly? Consistently?
Legally?
This course is designed to teach anyone conducting interviews
the proven skills for getting useful information from which to
make a hiring decision. An interview represents an enormous opportunity
to gather the data you need when hiring, but many managers squander
this chance. There is no reason you can't be an outstanding interviewer
- it just takes learning and practice.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Plan a logical, structured interview that includes pre-planned
interview questions.
2. Recognize the importance of developing an interview plan based
on thorough knowledge of the job.
3. Understand that a behavioral example is a specific life-history
event that can be used to determine the presence or absence of
a skill.
4. Use interviewing techniques that allow for interviewer control,
such as:
- Asking open-ended questions.
-
Taking
notes.
-
Seeking
contrary evidence.
-
Using
rapport-building questions.
-
Allowing
silence.
5. Explain
why it is important to make selection decisions based on facts
and information, not on a gut feeling.
6. Know why the concept of "the best predictor of future
behavior is past behavior" is so important in the behavioral-based
interview process.
7. Recognize why some questions cannot be legally asked in the
interview process.
